1) Rizzle Kicks - Lost Generation
Purpose: This video is promoting their new single 'Lost Generation' but also their new album called 'Roaring 20s'. The single was released on youtube with a music video on July 24th 2013, then the actual album was later released in August 2013. The music they had created was like their old music so they aren't heading in a new musical direction but are coming back with new music. They had released an album in 2011 then toured in 2012 so after that they started on new music which is the purpose for this music video.
Form: The form of this music video is them acting in different situations. They are acting in situations that match the lyrics. For example when they say 'Big Brothers in the house now yeah' the visual is them both sat in a chair that looks like it could be from Big Brother's diary room. You could also say this is narrative as they're showing and telling.
Context: The context is clear that everything they are doing matches with lyrics of the song. The meaning behind 'lost generation' is an unfulfilled generation coming to maturity during a period of unreliable behaviour. In the beginning they are both walking home drunk which relates to this generation and how younger people are getting intoxicated more often. They also link to social media when saying 'hashtag trend' and show someone posting a photo on facebook. It also shows lots of people on their phones taking selfies and just being on their phone in general.
Meaning: I think they're trying to put across that we now live in a generation where its not so much about living life, it is more about social media and how its taking over our lives. The audience are suppose to feel bad and reflect to the song, then think about not being on their phone as much or caring about a certain TV show.
Genre: Alternative hip hop, British hip hop, pop
Intended Audience: Teenagers and young adults.
2) Maverick Sabre - I Need
Purpose: This video was promoting 'I Need' his new single, out 6th November 2011 on iTunes. This single was later released on an album called 'Lonely are the Brave'. This is one of his first singles so he created himself from there. There are close ups in the video so we get to see what he looks like as he's new in the music scene.
Form: This music video tells a story so its form is a narrative. He represents his feelings through his actions and we know how he's feeling as he says during the song he needs something good. The dark blue skies and rain connote his low mood and his facial expressions also.
Context: Goodwin's theory says that the visuals and lyrics go together which is what happens in this video for 'I Need'. There are different motifs in different scenes and settings. For example when hes on the bus and its raining outside shows the emotion of the song.
Meaning: I think the audience are suppose to feel sorry for Maverick as he shows a lot of emotion and sadness. The facial expressions he shows are him in need of something. It links well with the lyrics and type of song he's singing. He sings with his soul which is a genre that comes out in his music.
Intended Audience: His music is quite catchy therefore I think that his intended audience is towards everyone. He doesn't use explicit language or actions throughout the video so it is acceptable for everyone to watch. Maverick is 26 years old so he is at a mature age where he can understand what is acceptable for younger viewers.
